Head Start now Enrolling
Good morning! Camden County officials have been working to program our new tornado siren. You may have noticed the siren sounding occassionally since about 10:30 AM. Officials shared this was part of the process to program devices used to sound the alarm in event of an actual tornado warning. Now that this process is complete, it should only sound for scheduled tests or actual warnings. Thank you for your patience during this process. #MCPirates

A brand new solar-powered tornado siren was installed on the northeast corner of our campus today. Macks Creek School is grateful to Southwest Fire Protection District and the Camden County Emergency Management Agency who worked to secure funding through SEMA to purchase and install this equipment. Thank you for making our school community a safer place to live and learn! #MCPirates

The Macks Creek R-V School District will miss two long time teachers this fall when school resumes. Ms. Kendra Purtle and Mrs. Barb Whitworth are retiring after a long stint with the Macks Creek R-V School District. Ms. Purtle has been a teacher in the district for 26 years, spending her entire career with Macks Creek R-V. She has taught a variety of courses related to English Language Arts over the years. In addition to teaching in the classroom, Ms. Purtle has served as a sponsor in many different capacities. We asked the faculty and staff to share some memorable moments from working with her throughout the years. A common theme throughout the memories with Ms. Purtle is the care she had for her colleagues and students. One memorable moment explained the many “life talks” with Ms. Purtle as a student at Macks Creek. Many staff and faculty members shared that they will miss her next year because she is a “great person and teacher.” Another memory shared was from Ms. Purtle’s time teaching drama and the patience she displayed with her actors/actresses (adults). Last year Ms. Purtle and another faculty member were sponsors for the senior class. The faculty member shared that Ms. Purtle was very concerned about their willingness to use personal proof of insurance for a day of golf cart rentals. Specifically, Ms. Purtle made the comment “are you sure you want to do that?” with the most concerned look on her face “just in case we were going to let the students drive.” A former student of Ms. Purtle’s and now a colleague, wrote, “I loved being in your class. You were and are someone that I have always looked up to as a role model. This year I was lucky to have called you a colleague.” A faculty member recalled that she met Ms. Purtle prior to the school year starting and “the rest is history.” Ms. Purtle has been a great co-worker, mentor, and friend. A fond memory of Ms. Purtle during a professional development day made everyone laugh. The question presented was “What is something you have never done before that you are looking forward to doing this year?” When it was Ms. Purtle’s turn to answer she replied, “RETIRE!” Well, Ms. Purtle, know that you will be missed by many colleagues from Macks Creek R-V and everyone wishes you good luck and success with your future endeavors. Mrs. Whitworth has been a teacher in the district for 20 years and fortunately for Macks Creek R-V, spent her entire career with the same school. She has taught Spanish and speech during her time in the district. Mrs. Whitworth served as the senior sponsor for many years garnering the nickname the “Senior Trip General.” We asked the faculty and staff to share their memories of Mrs. Whitworth with us to honor the time she has served in the district. A common theme throughout the comments relates to being on her “S-list” and her parking space. Many faculty members learned early on in their time at Macks Creek that Mrs. Whitworth did not tolerate people parking in her parking spot. One colleague shared that many of days during their time with Mrs. Whitworth were spent on the “S-list.” A former student and current colleague, shared a memory of making piñatas in Spanish class as favorite times. Another colleague recalled that Mrs. Whitworth is a pleasure to be around, unless you were on her team, then she was even more pleasant to be around. If you are on her team, you can expect that she will push you and “motivate” you to do better. Mrs. Whitworth’s demeanor always seemed calm and happy when working with her students. Students were lucky to have Mrs. Whitworth as their teacher for many years. In Mrs. Whitworth’s class you could expect for her to share advice, give you a lecture, but overall she has a heart of gold and cares for all of her students. During one former student’s time in her class, she grew to love Mrs. Whitworth and looked up to her as a mentor. Many faculty members shared that they will miss Mrs. Whitworth’s kindness and infectious smile next year. Good luck on your future endeavors. We are very thankful for the time both ladies have served the students of the Macks Creek R-V School District. We wish you both a blessed retirement! #MCPirates
