Montana Plattner, Macks Creek's Agricultural Advisor, had a successful week at the Missouri State Fair a few weeks back, competing in the Open Boer Goat Show against 228 goats from exhibitors across Missouri and surrounding states.
The highlight of the fair came when two of Ms. Plattner's young bucks were selected as Overall Reserve Grand Champion Bucks in the two different shows, placing them among the top animals in the entire show.
Her family farm's goat "RDL4 MADI-TRV Atomic Shock", co-owned with MADI-TRV Boer Goats, placed second in his class during the first show and went on to win his class in the second show before being selected as Overall Reserve Grand Champion Buck.
And his brother "RDL4 MADI-TRV The Counselor", also co-owned with MADI-TRV Boer Goats, won his class in the first show before being selected as Overall Reserve Grand Champion Buck. He later placed second in his class during the second show.
Adding to the significance of the accomplishments, Plattner also had the opportunity to Enoble the mother of these young bucks, RDL4 Rising 'Phoenix'. Phoenix is a past Missouri State Fair Overall Grand Champion in 2019, making the success of her offspring a continuation of an already successful show career.
With 228 goats entered in the Open Show, earning Overall Reserve Grand Champion honors is a significant accomplishment. For Ms. Plattner, the success represents nearly two decades of dedication to the Boer goat industry and the continuation of an SAE that began during her own FFA career.
Ms. Plattner has been involved in the Boer goat industry since she was four years old, giving her nearly 20 years of experience raising, breeding and exhibiting Boer goats. Her Boer goat operation also served as part of her Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) project during her own FFA career, where she earned second place at the Missouri FFA State Convention in the Goat Production Proficiency Award.
Now serving as an agricultural educator and FFA advisor here at Macks Creek, Ms. Plattner is bringing that same hands-on experience full circle. Her background in livestock production, competitive showing and FFA proficiency development gives her the opportunity to continue strengthening and building upon the foundation of the Macks Creek FFA chapter, while helping students create meaningful agricultural experiences of their own through SAE projects, livestock production, leadership and career development events.
