In the photo above, Macks Creek School's newest board member, Mr. Don Barrett is sworn into office accompanied by his wife Vicki. Outgoing Board Member, Mrs. Sara Stoufer, who has served the past six years as both President and Treasurer, led Mr. Barrett in the recitation of the Oath of Office.
Mr. Don Barrett was officially sworn in this evening, joining a proud tradition of serving our community as a member of our School Board. Mr. Barrett is married to his wife Vicki. They recently celebrated 16 years of marriage. Vicki and Don enjoy keeping up with chores on their property along Chapel Bluff, which Mr. Barrett has owned since 1978. In addition to maintaining his land, he stays busy as the Chairman of the Camden County Contamination Board and the Co-chairman of the Camden County Ambulance Board.
Long-time lake area residents will recognize Don as the owner and operator of Zodiac Lanes in Camdenton. He built the facility, which was located on North 5 and ran it for 40 years. Don, who is a professional bowler, enjoyed being able to make a living while pursuing his passion. As Don reflects upon his bowling career (during which time he bowled 18 perfect games), he fondly remembers 1994 when he placed 5th in the nationally telecast Championship Hall of Fame Tournament. That same year he bowled an average of 236 during the 36 week season, bowling over 700 in 27 different series!
Reflecting upon all of the great memories in the years spent at Zodiac Lanes and his property, Don shared:
The really cool part is the young people that basically grew up in the bowling alley and the farm have families of their own now and still keep in touch with us - a true legacy. Like the song McArthur says “it’s not what you pass on it’s what you pass down”.
