Leadership Academy 31

Congratulations to Kamora Merchant and Jade Stasiak! Both ladies graduated from Leadership Camden County and were honored at a ceremony yesterday afternoon at Margaritaville. Going into its 31st year, this graduating class joined the ranks of over 700 other individuals who have participated and completed this program sponsored by the Camdenton Area Chamber of Commerce. On the Camdenton Area Chamber of Commerce Website, Leadership Camden County is described as follows:

"During the 9-month program, participants have an opportunity to learn about a number of aspects of the community, including history and natural resources; state government; social services; health and care education; economic development and tourism; law enforcement, the legal system; and infrastructure. Several sessions focus on leadership skills, group dynamics, team building, and creating a vision for the future.

The goals of the program are to enhance the leadership skills of participants to improve Camden County's future; familiarize participants with the community's opportunities, needs, problems, and resources; identify and analyze current economic, political, and social forces affecting the community's future; establish effective peer relationships among participants; provide a common ground for communications between participants and community leaders; and to educate participants on how to move people and ideas to action."

The Chamber of Commerce expressed their appeciation to local employers and schools by stating, "we’d also like to extend a huge thank you to the employers and school districts who support this program by sending staff and students through it. Your commitment—both financial and in time—is invaluable, and we couldn’t be more grateful for your continued support."

Kamora and Jade went through this year's Leadership class with 4 other seniors from other County schools. Each student completing the program was presented with a cord to wear at their high school graduation ceremonies next month and a copy of Dr. Seuss's "Oh, the Places You'll Go", which was signed by the other graduates.

Class awards were voted upon by classmates. Kamora received the 'Problem Solver' award and Jade receive the 'Most Likely to Receive an Oscar'.
