The Macks Creek FFA collaborated with the Climax Springs FFA for western Camden county's 1st Annual Progressive Agricultural Safety Day. This event provided age-appropriate, hands-on educational lessons primarily designed for children ages 4 to 13 years old. After receiving such great feedback from last year's inaugural event, both FFA groups believe it is important to continue to share safety information with elementary students by making this an annual occurence each fall. This local effort is patterned after the international model created by the Progressive Agricultural Foundation Charitable organization and is made possible by the cooperative effort of many area institutions.
In total, 184 Macks Creek elementary students and their teachers traveled to Climax Springs School on Friday, October 13th. Macks Creek FFA members escorted each of our school's elementary groups and guided them through seven different presentations which included:
- Electric Safety by SW Electric
- Fire Safety by NW Fire Protection District
- Bus Safety by Macks Creek FFA Member Morgan Buck
- Rail Road Safety by MODOT
- Impaired Driving by MOHP
- First Aid and Emergency Medicine by Mercy Ambulance
- Germ Education by MU Extension.
FFA Members who assisted each of the groups from Macks Creek were Ty Glawson, Trenton Arnold, Wyatt Brooks, Kamora Merchant, Kassidy Campbell, Ashlee Klinksick, Brooklyn Green and Kevin Bowman.
The FFA would like to thank the MU Extensions office, each of the presenters and the Camden County Farm Bureau for providing lunch for everyone! The group would also like to thank SW Electric, NW First Protection District, MODOT, the Highway Patrol as well as the Macks Creek and Climax Springs school districts.
