(4) Macks Creek 17, (5) Newburg 2 (4 innings)

RICHLAND - Macks Creek and Newburg met on the softball diamond on Wednesday night for first-round action of the Class 1 District 2 Tournament.  The Lady Pirates came away with a 17 - 2 victory in four innings over the Lady Wolves.

In the bottom of the first Macks Creek plated four runs and never looked back.  Madeline Phillips led off the frame with a single just by the outstretched glove of the third baseman.  She stole second, moved to third when the ball rolled into the outfield, and then scored on Jesse Willis's RBI-single.  Shaylee Skinner would hit a slow roller down the third baseline, moving Jesse to second.  She would advance to third on the same play and the throw from the first baseman would get away from third, allowing her to score.  Bobbie Hilton hit a soft liner just over the head of the second baseman.  Following a strike out, Kenzie Hicks hit a squibbler up the first baseline, where the ball would be fielded by the pitcher.  The flip to first was bobbled and Hicks reached safely.  Taylor Seaholm, courtesy running for Hilton, reacched third on the play.  Bethany Schmidt followed with a two-RBI-single up the middle an pushed the lead to 4-0.

The Lady Wolves plated their two runs in the third.  Ella Mathis walked, Jamie Gann was hit-by-a-pitch, and Macy Suschanke hit a bloop single to center to load the bases with nobody out.  Chrizma Boswell lofted a liner down the left field line, where Macks Creek outfielder Lexi Mayer made the catch, then fired home to catch Mathis trying to score for a 7 - 2 double-play.  Gann and Macy would move up a base on the play.  Marah Suschanke then laced a two-RBI-double over the head of the left fielder to cut the lead to 4-2.

Macks Creek responded with five of their own in the bottom of the third.  Bobbie Hilton and Caytlin Eidson hit back-to-back triples to score one run.  Kenzie Hicks walked and then moved to third on Bethany Schmidt's RBI-single to left, plating Eidson.  Myra Cortez laid down a bunt in front of the plate and Kenzie was tagged out at home, with Cortez reaching first on the fielder's choice.  After a strike out for out number two and a walk by Madeline Phillips, Jesse Willis smacked a bases-clearing triple to the left field corner to push the lead to 9-2.  A fly out to left ended the inning.

Newburg put a runner on in the top of the fourth as Adriauna Mason walked, but she would be erased when Jordyn Suschanke hit a line drive to second that was snagged.  The throw to first was made for a double-play to end the half inning.

In the bottom of the fourth Macks Creek plated eight runs to end the game via the run rule.  Eleven Lady Pirate hitters went to the plate in the frame.  Bobbie Hilton singled and Taylor Seaholm entered again as the courtesy runner.  Caytlin Eidson then doubled to left-center field, pushing in Taylor.  Caytlin would score after moving to third on a Kenzie Hicks ground out to short before crossing the plate on a passed ball.  Bethany Schmidt reached on an error and Bailey Taylor entered as a courtesy runner for her.  Myra Cortez followed with a single to move the runners up one base each before Lexi Mayer's fly ball to left was dropped.  Bailey would score on the play, Cortez would reach third, and Mayer would make it to second.  Madeline Phillips then banged out a two-RBI-double to plate both Cortez and Mayer.   Jesse Willis doubled in Phillips from second, Shaylee Skinner collected an RBI-triple to right-center field, Bobbie Hilton was hit-by-a-pitch, and Taylor Seaholm entered again and advanced to second on a catcher's indifference.  Caytlin Eidson then knocked in the final run with a double to right to end the game.

"Offensively we came out swinging tonight," said Macks Creek's Jason Trusty, "the girls had to make a couple of adjustments at the start, but we did a nice job of executing at the plate and putting some runs on the board."

Five Lady Pirates had multiple hits on the night. Jesse Willis fell a home run short of the cycle with a single, double, and triple to go along with two runs scored and five RBI's.  She also reached on a hit-by-pitch.  Bobbie Hilton singled twice and tripled.  She also scored a run and reached on a hit-by-pitch.  Caytlin Eidson doubled twice, tripled, scored twice, and had three RBI's.  Madeline Phillips singled, doubled, walked, scored three runs, and had two RBI's and Bethany Schmidt singled twice, reached on an error, and had three RBI's too.  Shaylee Skinner had an RBI-triple and scored a run, Myra Cortez singled once, scored twice, and reached on a fielder's choice, Kenzie Hicks reached on an error, walked, and scored a run, and Lexi Mayer reached on an error and scored a run.  Taylor Seaholm and Bailey Taylor each scored two runs as courtesy runners in the contest.
