MACKS CREEK - The Macks Creek Pirates welcomed in the Eugene Eagles on Monday night. After five innings of play it was Eugene coming away with a 15-1 win.

Offensively on the night the Eagles took advantage of 10 Pirate errors in route to scoring their 15. They plated 14 runs in the first two innings and then tallied one more score in the top of the fifth.

Macks Creek was held hitless until the bottom of the fourth. Grant English hit a ball through the legs of the third baseman, moved to second on a wild pitch, and then to third on a passed ball. Following a strikeout, Trever Smith laced a ball up the middle, the first hit for Macks Creek, to plate Grant. Back-to-back strikeouts ended the inning. Macks Creek went 1-2-3 in their half of the fifth.

"Offensively we are still not picking up pitches out of the pitcher's hand and are taking too many pitches," said Macks Creek Coach Jason Trusty, "defensively we have to get better, especially on fly balls that we can get to."

Freshman Dakota Willis made his first career Varsity start and was saddled with the loss. He worked one-plus innings, allowing 11 runs, two earned, on six hits while striking out one and walking three. Grant English relieved and worked the final four innings and allowed four runs, one earned, on three while striking out four and walking one.

Trever Smith collected the only hit for the Pirates on his RBI-single in the fourth. Grant English reached on an error for the only other base runner.

The Pirates fall to 0-4.

The JV Pirates dropped the nightcap by a score of 13-0.

Kyler Gabriel started and took the loss. He worked an inning and was touched for seven runs, three earned, on three hits while striking out one batter, hitting one, and walking three. Olivier Sanchez worked an inning-and-two-thirds and allowed six runs, one earned, on four hits while striking out one, walking two, and hitting one. Trever Smith worked one-third of an inning and struck out the only batter he faced.

Tyler Newcomb was the only runner to reach base when he walked in the second inning.

The Pirates JV is now 0-4.
